Match Report – 8th May 2010
With four players unavailable for the game, our team balance was thrown a little so I used it as an opportunity to play players in different positions. Fortunately Liam and Alex stepped in, and it was Charlotte’s first game for the season. – welcome to the team Charlotte. Luke went to left back and did a great job clearing the ball and making good tackles. Eddie and Josh, as always, were great rotating in the centre of defence and midfield. The boys are learning that as last man it’s best to stand back from the play when other players are already there. Sam played a fabulous game at right back, he tackeld, passed and cleared the ball, made good throws-in and importantly was aware of the opposition players. Grady made some excellent saves by positioning his body correctly, and his throws were amazing giving us a big advantage. Liam played a solid game in midfield make some nice runs forward and then played a good game at left back. Sophie ran and ran and ran all game, making excellent tackles, dribbling the ball and passing, great game Sophie. Charlotte showed she has good skills and a desire to win the ball – could she be Sophies twin? The dynamic duo of Issac and Alex played good games up forward, making good runs and pressuring the defence when the opposition had the ball. Boronia are a good side with some players with excellent skills. Sam Hives is my player of the week. Coach Ben
Match Report – 1st May 2010
We played the third Mt Waverley side and they were as good as the others. Hamish was a late withdrawal which through the team tactics into chaos, the frazzled coach settled and worked out a new line-up. Our midfield ran hard supporting our defence and creating opportunities for the forwards. Goalie Grady made some good saves but was injured going in for a tough ball. As a team we need to remember that we don’t need two or three players going for the same ball, one player is OK. Our defence is learning to man-up, clear the ball from the danger area, and move toward the attacking player running at us with the ball. I thought Darcy did all these things brilliantly, for that he’s my player of the week. It’s great to see the players enjoying themselves, having fun and playing the game competitively. Well done Mighty Montrose. Thanks to Jono Petersen who refereed the match! Coach Ben
Match Report – 24th April 2010
Our team travelled to Mt Waverley to meet another of their teams, from the first week we discovered that they are a club with some talented players. Undaunted by the task, we set about a solid warm-up session which seemed to go forever as our match was delayed. I shuffled the team from the first week and tweaked our game plan which the team responded to very well. From the kick off, our defence of Sam, Hamish, Eddie and Darcy was put under pressure, they responded brilliantly, and followed team instructions to kick the ball away from our defensive area. Josh dropped back from midfield to help with the goal kicks, and did a great job kick the long ball to our midfield. I thought our midfielders of Sophie, Josh, Luke, Matty, Riley and James worked very hard, making great tackles, helping our defence and moving the ball to our forward line. From the goal kicks Matty made excellent positioning wide on the touchline and worked the ball out to midfield. Grady again was good in goals making fine saves, and giving us the advantage with his big throws. Isaac was the lone-ranger up in the forward line and made some good runs. I’m very happy with the teams improvement, and that the players are listening to instructions. Player of the week is Josh who had a great game in midfield and worked hard when moved into defence. And guess who we play this week, yep, Mt Waverley again.
Match Report – 17th April 2010
The team was excited for their first game of the season. This years team, a mixture from both under 9s last year welcomed newbies, Matty, Luke, Issac and Riley. Right from the kick-off a skilled Glen Waverley team put the pressure on us and scored a couple of goals. The team settled down, Josh and Eddie cleared the ball and dribbled it out of defence very well. Sam and Darcy put in some great tackles to stop attacks. Hamo was excellent running the ball to our midfielders. Sophie, James, Luke and Riley worked very hard running from defence to forward putting pressure on the Mt Waverley defenders. Grady was good in goals making some nice saves and throwing some long ball to our midfielders. Issac and Matt were fantastic in the forward line, helping the midfield and creating opportunities to score. Issac rewarded the team with a great goal. Although we lost and the scoreline doesn’t reflect our game, we can be proud of our effort. There is lots of room for improvement, we’ll settle the team down into positions and work on skills required to play in those positions. Well done Mighty Montrose on a good team effort. Player of the day was Matt for getting stuck in – tackling the opposition, winning the ball and dribbling it forward. Thanks to Jono Petersen for kindly stepping up as ref and doing a great job.
