Match Report - 9 May 2010

The under 12s headed to Ashburton and with a later kick off being mothers day hopefully gave the kids time enough to look after their mothers in the morning. The game started and Ashburton came at montrose hard, which was probably good as it woke us up and got us into the game. We started passing the ball around and started doing some of the things that we have been working on. It wasnt long before we got the ball up front to alex whiting who took on the defence and scored, 1 nil montrose. Ashburton werent giving us too much trouble and our back line was holding up well. We made a few changes with callum coming on for shaun and lewis and sammy on for gemma and emily. Lewis played a good mid fielders roll working up in attack and dropping back in defence. Callum made a good impact from the back taking on the ashburton players and winning the ball most of the time. Again we managed to get the ball out to lachie who went past his player put a good croos into alex, who passed to sammy who passed back to alex for an easy goal 2 nil and half time. Second half saw us go forward with xavier put up front for a spell, a ball came through which he took on the keeper who fumbled the ball which left xavier with a tap into the goal 3 nil. Next was josh nolans turn who ended up with ball right in front of goal and un marked, an easy slot to make it 4. Ashburton managed to get a lucky goal at the end but montrose was the better team on the day. Thanks again to all the mums and dads who came to the game. Coach Martyn

Match Report - 25 April 2010

We had a practice game against knox since we had a bye this weekend. It was a great chance to try players in different positions and also for the team to get use to playing on the full size pitch. We played 4 x 15 mins. After the first 30 mins we were 2 goals up, i made some changes to players positions on the field which i thought worked very good. I was very pleased with one of our goals in the last quarter where we passed the ball around between our players, then it went out wide to lachie who raced down the left side with a perfect cross into the goal box where the two alex’s were waiting un marked, an easy tap in for alex whiting who is looking really sharp this year. Final result 4 nil.

Match Report – 18 April 2010

Under 12  Sunday saw the start of the season and a new beginning for montrose with our first team playing in the junior league. Boronia was our oposition and they looked like they knew what they were doing. On Thursday we had our first chance to go over positions and how we would play on the full size park so onto the field we went in those positions. Within the first five minutes boronia was all over us and put one in the back of the net, my first initial thought was, was this going to be a struggle? but the team settled down and got into the game. It was all montrose for the rest of the half, with a number of chances missed, alex whiting up front was working really well along with emily, and lewis smith on the right mid field was doing some great runs as well. Half time one nil down we spoke about keeping control of the ball and making sure of our passes, that we had a very realistic chance of winning the game if we worked hard. The second half started and montrose looked good, a great through ball saw alex whiting run onto the ball and score a great goal  – 1 all. We kept pushing and missed another couple of chances and then the fitness started to show especially playing on the fullsize pitch. Boronia came hard and fast but we managed to keep them out. A great start to the season. Next week Sunday 25th practice game against Knox city, egan lee reserve, wantrina south, off Wallace road mel ref 73a3 10.10am kick off. no player of the week since we have started a players player and b&f for the season.
