Match Report – 9th May 2010

Home again this week hosting Waverly Victory, with exactly 7 players ready and kitted up to play to soccer. Having no subs meant that all the boys were going to have to push hard and keep running all game. The game started with Waverly attacking hard, but our defence holding them off well. Paddy made a great interception as the last man but unfortunately the ball got away from him, trickling past an unprepared Josh into the back of the net. Nando and Ty hasseled well in the middle, advancing the ball towards the attacking goal numerous times. Jackson was lively, making great clearances from deep in the backline. Montrose had a few shots on goal, but were denied by some good saves from the Waverly goal keeper.  In the 2nd half we saw some very strong tackles from Omer doing exactly what I asked of him. All the boys were going in strong, winning the ball and clearing it away from danger. Josh had a pretty tough day with Waverly peppering the goals from all over the place, but he didn’t put his head down and kept pulling off numerous saves. A great break from Nando down the wing, followed by a brilliant cross saw Ethan on the end of it to slot in home for a well deserved goal. The boys did well to run hard for the full game and put in a great effort with the tackling.

Match Report – 2nd May 2010

Game three was away to Cardinia, who provided a ground in great condition. The boys looked good in their new short and socks, and a new shirt was given to them to top it all off... unfortunately Cardinia also wore blue so the guys had to wear a red milo bib over the top! This week we had two new recruitments, Omer and Josh who put his hand up to go in goals. We started with our usual line up which worked very well for the first then minutes. The game was close and the first goal could of gone either way. Great tackles early on from Rhyes and Ethan, followed by some great saves from Josh saw the game  stuck at 0-0 for a long period of the game. Nando and Padraic hasseled upfront as they have been for the last couple of weeks with Jackson pushing up to support them both. Cardinia kept pushing us hard, and were lucky to get the break through goal. At half time we had a jig of the positions so everyone had a good amount of time on the pitch. Paddy continued to hold strong in defence, and Ty caused havoc in the center. A few well taken chances by Cardinia increased the gap, but the boys weren’t disheartened and kept pushing, playing a fun and competitive game. All in all a good game to watch and be apart of with the boys playing well. Well done guys! Player of the game was Paddy.

Match Report – 25th April 2010

This week the lads were at home hosting Bunyip. After a tough game last week the boys were determined to get off to a good start. Jackson came out firing winning alot of tackles in the defence aswell as clearing the ball long to the boys up front. Bunyip had a few early chances, but were kept at bay due to some great saves from Sammy (Paddy’s older brother). The game was very even early on, but after a few attacks for both teams, Bunyip eventually scored to take the lead. The boys kept their heads up, defending strong and attacking quickly. Alex, Padraic and Nando played some great football upfront, pressuring the Bunyip defence. After a good 5 mins of Montrose dominance, the boys were able to score 2 quick goals to put us infront at half time. The 2nd half saw Montrose continue to push Bunyip hard with Paddy and Ty making some brilliant tackles to stop the Bunyip boys from equalizing. More big clearances from Jackson to the front line gave Montrose 2 quick breaks with Alex and Nando adding to guys total to increase the lead to 4-1. The boys held out strong, with Rhyes coming to light in the final stages, only allowing one more goal for Bunyip to slip by to end the game 4-2. Man of the match was Tyrese.

Match Report – 18th April 2010

First game into the season and the boys travelled away to Oakleigh. Playing against a team that had enough players to fill 3 teams on their own and on a pitch bigger than normal, it was going to be hard. The boys started off good, tackling well and making some big clearances from the defence. Although Alex (thanks for filling in) was making some good saves, Oakleigh kept pushing to eventually score the first goal. Not disheartened the guys kept pushing hard with Jackson, Patrick and Ethan playing well in the backline, making some good tackles. Rhyes came on and off in defence, taking in advice and showing it on the pitch. We rotated the keeper around alot to give a few guys a go with the gloves on. Oakleigh had a few more chances on goal and made their chances stick. We saw somes good runs from Luyando in the 2nd half, attacking well with Jacob (thanks to you too) there waiting to support him. Padric had a few great shots on goal late in the 2nd half and was unlucky not to score. Oakleigh finished the game on top. Great effort from the boys. With the first game out of the way, we can look forward to learning new skills and playing some great soccer over the next few months! Player of the day was Jackson. Coach Kai
